Police say a 24-year woman was severely injured when she was hit by a car in downtown Providence over the weekend.

About Incident

Shortly bore 10 PM Saturday night for a report of pedestrian hit at the corner of Exchange Terrace and Dorrance Street.

Police say they met with the driver off the vehicle, which had struck a woman who was in a crosswalk on Dorrance.

According to police, the victim was thrown to the pavement and suffered severe injuries; she was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a summons for failing to observed a right of way in crosswalks.
