About Incident

Shortly before 7 PM on Wednesday, police were called to the intersection of Broad and Byfield Streets for the report of the crash.

Police say that upon investigation and speaking with witnesses, they determined that a Kawasaki dirt bike was operating at a high rate of speed in the northbound breakdown lane on Broad Street.

When the driver of a car in the travel lane on Broad Street attempted to turn right onto Byfield Street, witnesses say the dirt bike did not stop, and the vehicles collided.

Witnesses told police the driver of the dirt bike proceeded to drive on the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian before colliding with a fruit stand cart, at which time the driver was ejected from his bike.

The operator of the dirt bike, Jose Mozco, age 30, refused to cooperate with police; he was taken to RI Hospital for treatment.

Police say the passenger who was riding on the dirt bike— a woman in her 30s — suffered serious injuries and was transported to RI Hospital.

Mozco was taken into custody by police and is facing numerous charges.
