Hundreds of firefighters from Massachusetts, New England, and around the country paid their respects Monday to fallen firefighter Lt. Jason Menard. 

Menard’s funeral took place at St. John’s Catholic Church in Worcester at 11 a.m. on Monday.

The City of Worcester took to Facebook after Menard’s wake on Sunday to express its condolences. 

“Hundreds of firefighters from different companies around the commonwealth lined up this afternoon to pay their respects to Lieutenant Jason Menard….The Worcester Fire Department offers its sincerest gratitude to everyone who has shown love and support for the Menard family, injured firefighter Chris Pace, who is recovering in the hospital, and to all of the men and women of the WFD who are mourning this tremendous loss.”

“Rhode Island is well-represented today,” said Christopher Smith with the Cumberland Fire Department, who shared photos from the funeral procession. 

Worcester Fire Chief Michael Lavoie announced on Wednesday morning the Line of Duty Death of Menard. Lieutenant Menard, age 39, who was assigned to Ladder 5, Group 2 at the McKeon Road Fire Station.

The fire at 7 Stockholm Street was first reported at 12:58 a.m. 

“This is an extremely difficult day for the Worcester Fire Department,” said Lavoie following Menard’s death.  “Lieutenant Menard’s heroic actions saved the life of one of his crew members.”

Lieutenant Menard, leaves behind his wife Tina and 3 children, and his parents. He was a Worcester resident.
