Thousands turned out in Providence on Saturday for the nationwide "No Kings" protests against President Donald Trump - ahead of his military parade in Washington, D.C.

"June 14 is special for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is this event," wrote event organizers Indivisible Rhode Island (IRI). "While there is a vanity parade in honor of an emperor who has no clothes...in DC, around the country, people just like you are getting out and making their voices heard."

In Providence, protests took place at India Point Park, and the State House - where GoLocal photographer Richard McCaffrey was on hand to capture the event.

"The resistance starts and ends with regular people who choose to speak out in whatever way they can...everyone can organize, everyone can be part of something bigger than themselves," added IRI.

Latest Action in RI

As GoLocal reported earlier this week:

Hundreds protested on Monday night in Providence. The demonstrators were protesting the actions by ICE and the Trump administration's immigration policies.

The protesters began off of Empire Street and marched down Weybossett Street around the Turks Head Building and up Westminster Street to the Federal office building.

In April, thousands of Rhode Islanders participated in the “Hands Off” protest on Saturday in Providence. The march began at Hope High School and made its way to Providence City Hall.

The national organizers said, "Today, in more than 2,100 cities and towns across the country, millions of people joined together for the No Kings Day of Defiance— the largest coordinated protests since President Trump returned to office. From block parties to marches, families, workers, immigrants, and neighbors showed up in the face of military deployments and political threats to affirm a shared truth: we don’t answer to kings, and we will not be ruled by fear."
