Progressive Group Hires New Leader

Ocean State Action—a state coalition of more than a dozen progressive organizations—has hired Kate Brock as its new executive director.

“Kate has demonstrated her dedication to the progressive movement through her work with Repower Maine and as Ocean State Action’s lead organizer,” said Sheila Dormody, president of Ocean State Action Fund. “Kate’s effective grassroots organizing proved the strength of Ocean State Action’s coalition by mobilizing thousands of progressive voters this past election cycle. We are enthusiastic for Kate to take the lead as our executive director.”

Brock joined Ocean State Action last June as the lead organizer. She is replacing Jill Harrington, who had served as interim executive director after Peter Asen stepped down in July to take a position with the state Democratic Party.

“I'm excited to take on this responsibility,” Brock said. “As a Rhode Islander, I understand the struggles facing our state in these difficult times, but I know that we are poised for an economic recovery and have a chance to make significant and beneficial changes to help Rhode Island’s working families. I look forward to working with legislators and coalition members to tackle the state budget, get people back to work, and ensure that all Rhode Islanders have access to affordable quality health care.”

Brock had previously worked for Repower Maine, a group focused on climate change.
