Prov Shooting Victim and Veteran Chionuma to be Laid to Rest at Arlington National Cemetery

Samuel Kesandu Chionuma passed away on July 27th, 2023, in Providence, Rhode Island, at the young age of 37. He was a beloved son, cherished friend, and dedicated member of both the military and his community. Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of our dear son, brother, uncle, and cousin.

 

The family will hold services for Samuel on August 18th and 19th in Syracuse, New York, before he is laid to rest in a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Services will be held at Farone & Son Funeral Home (4899 West Taft Rd, Liverpool, NY 13088). Calling Hours: Friday, August 18th, 4 pm to 7 pm; Funeral Service: Saturday, August 19th, 11 am.

Samuel, who was known for his loving, jovial spirit and bravery, was an awarded veteran of the U.S. Army. He completed two tours in Iraq and won commendations for his 13 years of service. He continued to serve post the military in Hawaii, Connecticut, and Rhode Island in various logistics and operations roles. He was working as a senior consultant and operations manager for the Rhode Island Department of Human Services when he passed.

 

Samuel is remembered by his family, friends, and many who had the privilege of knowing him as a truly caring, genuine person. He was a protector and treated everyone he met as a friend. He took pride in the connections he made, even introducing friends to each other who later married and started their own families.

Tragically, Samuel was taken from us far too soon due to a senseless act of violence. His loss is deeply felt by his grieving family, including his loving parents, Drs. Henry and Chima Chionuma; siblings Grace, Henry, Zaneta, and Zachary; nephew, Miles; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles all over the world. 

 

As his family, we wanted to create this space for people to share their memories of Samuel, send tributes, and keep up with updates on details of services in memory of his life.
