Prov. City Council Poised to Approve $638M Budget

The budget is a modified version of the last administration’s budget that has been hashed out by Mayor Angel Taveras and Council President Michael Solomon. The budget eliminates a one percent raise for non-union managers in the first half of the year and cuts extra positions former Mayor David Cicilline had proposed. It also borrows $20 million and leaves $3.6 million in unidentified savings that need to be found in order to be balanced.
The budget sailed through the council on its first reading with no discussion—an indication that, at least at this stage, there are few strong objections to it among council members.
