Providence Police and Providence Firefighters were quick to act on Wednesday, when a dog was spotted on the ice at Edgewood Lake at Roger Williams Park.

According to Providence Police Mounted Command, a jogger alerted them to the dog’s precarious situation shortly after 7 AM.

Police say the dog appeared to know it was in trouble, barking loudly -- and not moving.

The Providence Fire Department was called, and according to police, it was at that point the dog changed position slightly, and fell through the ice.

Two firefighters got in their boat, and worked feverishly to break the ice covering the pond to reach the animal, say police.

And, thanks to their efforts, the dog was rescued.
