Providence Police Arrest Man Carrying Stolen Gun With Extended Magazine Containing 31 Rounds

According to police, officers were in the area of Smith Street due to a call for a vehicle being tampered with.
While in the area police Jyrom Herrera and another maile subject walking on Chalkstone Avenue in close proximity to the original call.

Police said that as they attempted to stop and talk to the two subjects, Herrera fled on foot towards Smith Street, and police pursued on foot to the rear of 445 Smith Street where Herrera was observed removing a handgun from his waistband throwing it over a fence before again fleeing.
Following the pursuit police were able to take Herrera into custody on Smith Street.
A short time later police located a 9mm Glock handgun with an extended magazine found to contain 31 rounds behind the fence of 445 Smith Street.
Upon further investigation Detectives were able to charge Herrera with Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
