Providence Police say they located a vehicle of interest related to a house shooting in the city over the weekend.

A short time later, police said they located a vehicle matching the description — following an arrest and gun seizure.

About Incident

Police said shortly before midnight on Saturday, they were on patrol in the area of Plain Street they saw an SUV matching the description of a stolen vehicle out of North Providence.

According to police, they followed the SUV through the Wendy’s on Eddy Street, at which time it accelerated out back toward Plain Street.

Police said they attempted to make a traffic stop by putting on their overhead lights; they said the vehicle began to slow down at which point all of the occupants jumped out and ran.

Following a foot pursuit, police said they apprehended a male individual — and found a loaded firearm discarded in the path the suspect had taken attempting to evade police.

According to Providence Police Detectives Major David Lapatin, police are looking into whether the vehicle involved in the incident was the one used in the house shooting.

“We are looking into it — there looks to be a similarity,” Lapatin confirmed to GoLocal.
