Providence Streets a Mess: Many Untreated, Smiley’s Office Says It's “Usual Protocols”

At 10 AM on Tuesday, many of Providence’s streets were unplowed, and nearly all appeared to be untreated. About 4 plus inches of snow had fallen. The storm was no surprise - it had been forecasted for days in advance.

Four-wheel drive vehicles could be seen struggling to get up even the slightest inclines. And, some were sliding going down hills.

GoLocal watched a Brown shuttle bus fishtail going up College Street due to the lack of plowing and road treatment.

 

 

Little plowing even on Hope and Waterman,

 

 

Even Hope Street in front of Mayor Brett Smiley’s home looked to be barely touched.

"I think we're still actively plowing," said Josh Estrella, of Smiley’s communication department shortly after 10:30 AM on Tuesday.

 

"From what I've heard, it's usual protocol," he added.
