Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo has nominated Lara Montecalvo for the state’s Public Defender.

“Lara’s experience as a trial attorney, her commitment to the rule of law, and her strong sense of compassion and empathy make her an outstanding public defender. She has big shoes to fill, and I know she is the right person to lead this office and ensure the rights of the accused are fully protected,” said Raimondo.

Montecalvo’s name was submitted on Wednesday to the Rhode Island Senate for advice and consent.
