RI Correctional Officer Union Calls For Parole Board Resignations

The Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers has denounced the state Parole Board's decision to release "Thrill Killer" Alfred Brissette. The union has also called for the resignation of all Parole Board members following the convicted killer's release from prison on Tuesday.

In December 2012, the union kicked off a campaign titled "End The Violence, Rhode Island" to shed light on the state's lenient and unaccountable Parole Board and also the state's so-called "Good Time" law, both of which have let violent criminals back on the streets far in advance of their release dates if they behave in prison.

"We are absolutely disgusted and appalled that the Parole Board would put the citizens of Rhode Island in danger by voting again to release 'The Thrill Killer.'" Said President of RIBCO, David Mellon. "Here is a guy who kidnapped a random woman, beat her over the head with a lug wrench, tried to sever her spine with a shovel, and then dug a hole to bury her in. And he did it for fun. Now he is being released after serving only thirteen years because they were 'impressed with inmate's program participation and his documented plan for change.' We find that to be not only non-sensical, but also dangerous to innocent Rhode Islanders."
