Last winter’s record for the number of COVID hospitalizations in Rhode Island — 514 on December 15, 2020 — has been shattered.

The Rhode Island Department of Health is reporting adjusted numbers showing that on Thursday, January 13, the state hit 549 hospitalizations.

The new hospitalization data was just reported on Tuesday.

One month earlier on December 13, 2021, Rhode Island reported 245 hospitalized.

The Thursday high reportedly decreased slightly over the weekend — RIDOH now reports 540 hospitalized.

Rhode Island also report 22 deaths since last week.

According to RIDOH,  deaths climbed over the weekend:

January 14, 2022 4 deaths

January 15, 2022 4 deaths

January 16, 2022 7 deaths

January 17, 2022 7 deaths

The total number of deaths in Rhode Island since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 3,200.

The positive news is that the transmission rate decreased from over 3,500 cases per 100,000 over 7 days to 2,808.5.

And, new cases on Monday were 2,481 — but that number is expected to be reported higher when adjusted.
