The Rhode Island State Police (RISP) announced Wednesday that they arrested a fugitive from Georgia -- with the use of drone technology.

RISP says the arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Reservoir Avenue in Cranston and a subsequent foot pursuit Tuesday night.

The suspect -- later identified as Michael Odom, age 36, of 741 Morosgo Drive, Apt. #144, Atlanta, Georgia -- fled from the motor vehicle and was tracked by K-9 Troopers to the area behind 301 Reservoir Avenue, said RISP.

Drone Utilized to Find Suspect

With the assistance of a State Police drone with an infrared camera, Troopers were able to locate Odom hiding in the water of Mashapaug Pond.

Troopers and members of the Cranston Police Department were directed toward Odom along the shoreline by the UAV operator. Troopers located Odom and he exited the pond on his own and was taken into custody without further incident.

Members of the State Police, with the assistance of the Cranston Police Department, arrested Odom for obstruction; simple assault; resisting arrest; failure to register as a sex offender; and "Fugitive for Justice on a Full Extradition Warrant out of the South Fulton County Police Department for Probation Violation on the original offense of Aggravated Assault on a Family Member – Gun and Giving False Name to a Law Enforcement Officer."

Odom was held overnight at State Police Headquarters and later transported to Sixth District Court for arraignment.
