Significant Deployment of RI State Police at State House and Governor's Home UPDATED

The Rhode Island State Police has deployed a significant number of troopers at the Rhode Island State House. Ten plus vehicles are located on the State House grounds on Wednesday night. 

In addition, the State Pollice added increased security at Governor Gina Raimondo's home.

Colonel James M. Manni, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety this evening released the following statement, “At present, the Rhode Island State Police is not aware of any organized protests or credible threats to security at the Rhode Island State House or elsewhere in our state. However, due to the events taking place in our nation’s capital, additional security measures are being implemented to include an increased State Police presence statewide.”

NBC News Reports, "Capitol buildings in multiple states were shut down or security around them was bolstered Wednesday in response to protests and chaos on Capitol Hill in Washington. Precautionary measures were taken in Georgia, Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Wisconsin, Colorado and California."

Editor's Note: GoLocal is referring to the group who broke into the U.S. Capitol Building as domestic terrorists.

Terrorism is defined in the Code of Federal Regulations as “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives” (28 C.F.R. Section 0.85).
