Six New School-Zone Speed Cameras Cropping Up Throughout Providence -- See Where

Providence Police announced Tuesday that school-zone speed cameras will be activated at six additional locations throughout the city beginning Wednesday April 13, with warnings being issued to violators for the first 30 days. 

Motorists are asked to be aware of these new locations and offenders will be automatically issued a summons starting on June 6, 2022.  Cameras at the existing 14 locations will continue to issue violations immediately.

New speed camera locations will be installed on Plainfield Street (Laurel Hill Annex School), 773 Chalkstone Avenue (Nathaniel Greene Middle School), Hope Street (Hope High School), Mount Pleasant Avenue (Mount Pleasant High School), Bridgham Street (Providence Career and Technical Academy) and Branch Avenue (E-Cubed Academy).

Cameras that will remain in their current locations and continue to issues violations immediately are located at 93 Cranston Street (Providence Career and Technical Academy), Dexter Street at Waldo Street (Alfred Lima Elementary School), 187 Douglas Avenue (Times 2 Academy), 593 Academy Avenue (LaSalle Academy), 114 Olney Street (Hope High School), 225 Thurbers Avenue (Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex), 459 Charles Street (Esek Hopkins Middle School), 156 Reservoir Avenue (Reservoir Avenue Elementary School), 520 Hope Street (Providence Center School), 459 Promenade Street (Paul Cuffee School), Blackstone Blvd at University Avenue (School One), Chalkstone Avenue at Waller Street (Mount Pleasant Academy), Eaton Street at Nelson Street (RFK Elementary School) and Union Avenue at Waverly Street (Children’s Friend).

Cameras are operational on all school days, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and vehicles that are determined to be operating 11MPH or more over the 20MPH speed limit will be automatically issued a violation. Violations are reviewed by Providence Police Officers and Conduent, an outside vendor who manages and maintains the cameras, for accuracy.  Once violations are verified they are mailed to the offender for payment. The first and each subsequent fine is $50.00. Increased signage is placed in the areas where speed limit laws are photo enforced by a speed camera.
