The fire occurred just days before the summer tourism season begins.

“We are devastated to hear about the fire and the impact it will have on the Matunuck Team. They are an incredible group of people that understand tourism, and always ready to assist South County Tourism. Now it’s our turn as a region to help them,” said Louise D. Bishop, President of the South County Tourism Council.

“As always, Matunuck Oyster Bar has been the number one restaurant destination in South County and was named one of the top restaurants in the country by USA Today. Not only is the dining experience amazing but Perry Raso has made his place an educational experience not seen anywhere else in New England,” she said.

According to individuals with firsthand knowledge, the structure will need to be rebuilt.

South Kingstown tax assessor documents say the restaurant's original structure was built in 1946.

The building is identified as a wood structure and is 7,400 square feet.

It was assessed at a value of $1,292,400.
