2014 is historic with the first woman Governor and the first Hispanic elected statewide. There were some significant surprises and some big-time losers.

Some Eras Ended

The return of Buddy Cianci 3.0 is officially over and the likelihood of another Italian-American Mayor is beyond a long shot. Jorge Elorza creates the first back-to-back Hispanic Mayoral elections. Elorza's win over Cianci establishes the Latino voting block as the power-base of the City of Providence for the next generation.

First Female Chief Executive

Gina Raimondo is now Rhode Island's first female Governor. She will be joined by Nellie Gorbea who is another in first in Rhode Island - the newly elected Secretary of State is the first Latino candidate to be elected statewide.
