Tikoian Announces He Is Leaving as Chief of North Providence Police

North Providence Police Chief David Tikoian is stepping down after two-plus years. The former highly decorated member of the State Police Command staff help the North Providence Police department stabilize after a series of issues.

He oversaw the building of a new public safety building and transformed the department to receive State accreditation.

Tikoian made the announcement in a message to his command staff.

The retirement is effective on January 1, 2020.

In a memo, he wrote, “It has been an honor to hold the rank of Colonel and be your Chief over the past several years.”

He added, “It is my humble opinion that the measure of success is not measured in the numbers of years, but rather what was accomplished during your tenure.”

Arthur Martins is expected to succeed him.
