Luke Renchan Renchan, Entertainment
Luke Renchan, one of Rhode Island's top event planners, is warning of the impact of contracting the coronavirus even after being vaccinated.

Renchan, who was one of the organizers of the Rhode Island Coalition of Wedding and Event Professionals, is alerting Rhode Islanders -- including those who are vaccinated -- to be mindful of the virus and its effect on one's health.

Rhode Island is seeing a significant increase in cases of coronavirus due to the spread of the Delta variant.

Covid Sucks!!

I have tested positive and have reached out to everyone I could backtrack I was around for the last week. I am sharing this publicly so those that may have been around me in the last week to just be aware and consider getting a test. I also want this to be an opportunity to share this experience and hope that it may be able to help others.

I am fully vaccinated with Pfizer and thought I was completely safe from the virus but I had to find out the hard way. I will say that I have been told I would only have mild symptoms versus if I didn't have the shot. I started feeling a sore throat Wednesday and took a rapid test Thursday before I set out to do anyone's events and I tested NEGATIVE.

I went out and worked the weekend to only find I was more tired, body aches, and sore throat and just thought I wore myself from a busy week of weddings and events. I had Sunday off and took some time to relax and be with my family and I randomly just decided to take another rapid test. This time it came up positive and I thought it was a fluke and took a second one with the same results. That's when I also realized that I had lost my sense of taste and smell. I took a PCR test on Monday and was confirmed POSITIVE.

My family has all been tested and so far all NEGATIVE. I am stuck in my room till Monday as long as my symptoms have gone away. The worst part is having to go back and think about all the people you were around. The Department of Health walks through this and backtracks your steps and reached out to people. They reach out to those people and keep it anonymous but you don't have a clue who the person infected was. I felt the responsibility of letting these people to know personally so they weren't guessing who it was and so they would have a better idea if they or their guests were close to me.

This week I am missing 3 weddings that I have my amazing team who is stepping in place to help. I have never missed a wedding since I started in 1993 and it's killing me not to be there personally but my team [members] are rockstars and I am grateful for them for stepping up: Anthony Avicolli, Matt Andrews & Matthew DjLyte Rapoza.

Thanks to Brian from the Rob Peters DiFazio Team for stepping up for Trivia tonight.

I also need to thank my Wife Jennifer Machado-Renchan who has been running the house and had to take time out of work to take care of us all while I have stayed in our room. I don't know what I would do without her and she is always there to keep this family together through tough times and makes so many sacrifices so thank you and I Love You. Thankfully she is negative and the rest of the family!! I miss hugging the kids and my wife but will mean all the more when I am able to do so.

I also want to thank some of my close friends. We were supposed to go to Iceland Sunday but they decided to postpone the trip to a future date and are glad to be able to make this happen with them.

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and just be aware of their surroundings and still take safety measures when they can. Thanks to my family, friends, and event industry family who have checked in with me! Can't wait to be back on Monday!!

Thankful
Luke Renchan
