Trump "Has a Tweet Disease with the Attention Span of a Goldfish,” Says Leading French Journalist

Leading French Journalist Jean Lesieur
"He has a tweet disease with the attention span of a goldfish,” said leading French journalist Jean Lesieur about President Donald Trump. Lesieur was in Providence on Wednesday.

In scathing comments about Trump that sparked memories of Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi's famous description of Goldman Sachs ("The world's most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money"), Lesieur offered a harsh critique of the recently elected President of the United States.

Lesieur said, “Trump is the most disruptive (leader) in the western world since the Second World War.”

In an appearance on GoLocal LIVE and then in a speech at Providence Hope Club before the Providence Committee on Foreign Relations, Lesieur, who is a novelist and a co-founder of France 24, the French version of CNN, warned of the rise of Trump and nationalism.

“He is the symptom and agent of the emerging nationalism. And, nationalism should not be considered patriotism. Patriotism is the love of your own. Nationalism is the hatred of others,” said Lesieur at the Hope Club.

In a sweeping discussions with GoLocal prior, he spoke about Europe in the Brexit, the Trump relationship with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the wild French election campaign.
