Shortly before 9 PM Friday night, police responded to a first-floor break-in on Elmgrove Avenue.

The victim — a female in her 80s — said she was in her bed when she heard a loud crash.

She told police she went to see what happened, and found the suspect standing in her kitchen.

Police say the victim described the suspect as a black male around 5’6” in height, and that he was wearing a dark-colored jacket and hat.

The victim said she screamed at the suspect to “get out,” at which time he fled through the front door.

The victim said nothing was stolen; police said they observed forced entry through a window screen into the residence.

At approximately 9:15 PM, police responded to a call for a break-in in progress on Congdon Street.

Police met with the victim — a woman in her 60s — who said the suspect fled prior to their arrival.

The victim told police she had been in a second-floor bedroom with an infant grandchild when she heard noises coming from the first floor.

She told police she heard footsteps coming up the stairs, at which time she started screaming.

At that time, she said she heard the suspect then walk back down the stairs and run out of the house.

When she came downstairs she saw the front door open; police said they discovered the rear patio door to be open.

Detectives are investigating both incidents.
