3 Shootings, 2 Victims Taken to Hospital in Providence Overnight

Providence police responded to three separate shooting incidents early Saturday morning in the city

Two people were shot and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Saturday 8/29 1:58 AM

On Saturday August 29, 2020 at approximately 0158 hours, a patrolman informed Dispatch that he was flagged down by a witness who wished to remain anonymous that someone had been shot at a gas station on Broadway.  Shortly after, cars responded to the Broadway Express Mart located at 306 Broadway.

Upon arrival police observed a man standing by a [vehicle]. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the lower right side of his back.  He was unable to provide police with much information due to his injuries.  Rescue arrived on scene and transported victim to RI Hospital.

While on scene, police spoke with vicitm's two friends who were able to provide more information regarding the incident, who stated that they arrived at the aforementioned address in order to purchase gas and indicated that Victim was the operator and the individual pumping the gas.  At this time…a dark colored vehicle pulled into the gas station with two male subjects and a fight ensued between occupants of both vehicles at the gas station which continued into the streets of Broadway. They heard shots being fired and ran for safety.

During the investigation, police canvassed the rear parking lot of this location and located Vicitm's hat along with four (4) spent shell casings and one (1) live round.


Saturday 8/29 2:01 AM

On 08/29/20 at approximately 0201 hours, [police] responded to 11 West Friendship St. for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, Police observed a [vehicle] with heavy damage parked perpendicular to the flow of traffic. Police then observed the victim, lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the back left shoulder. Police secured the scene and victim was transported to RI hospital.

It should be noted that Police then attempted to speak with additional witnesses on scene to which all were uncooperative. Police were only given conflicting stories on the number of shots fired, which was told to be between 2 and 8. No other information on the suspect or shooting was given.

Police then canvased the area and located 2 spent shell casings in close proximity to the vehicle. BCI detectives Cavanaugh and Richards responded to the scene to collect the casings. 

It should be noted that upon Rescue 1's arrival, the crowd began to become belligerent towards Police, causing the scene to become unsafe for EMS to enter. Police gained control of the crowd and were able to disperse bystanders, to which EMS was able to enter.

Saturday 8/29 2:26 AM

On August 29, 2020 at approximately 0226 hours police responded to 25 Flower Street for a report of shots fired.  Police arrived on scene and immediately observed one (1) spent shell casing in the middle of the street directly in front of 25 Flower Street apartment four (4). The scene was then secured.

While on scene police observed a group of subjects located in front of 25 Flower Street apartment three (3). The group of subjects stated to police that they did not hear or see anything; the group was highly uncooperative and refused to speak with police. Police canvased the surrounding area to no avail.
