VIDEO: Police Address Media on Kidnapping Suspect of 9-Year-Old Being Charged With Sexual Assault

The suspect in the abduction of a 9-year-old girl in Providence on Monday was charged with kidnapping and second-degree sexual assault, according to Providence police.

The suspect -- Luis Martinez-Romero, 34, appeared in court on Wednesday morning.

"There is no more disturbing case in this city -- or state -- for some time," said Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements.

Clements, who was joined by Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare and Providence Major David Lapatin, thanked detectives for their quick work in apprehending Martines-Romero.
