UPDATED: 3-6 Inches of Snow Now in Forecast for RI - Winter Storm Watch Issued

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts beginning Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night. 

UPDATED BY NWS on Saturday.

According to NWS, “Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.”

“Travel could be very difficult. Snow loading from heavy wet snow may lead to power outages,” NWS continued. “There remains uncertainty in the exact track and intensity of the winter storm, therefore expect changes to later forecasts.”

 

Rhode Island Forecast: 

Saturday
Increasing clouds, with a high near 36. Light and variable wind is coming from the east around 6 mph in the morning.

 

Saturday Night
Rain, possibly mixed with snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 31. East wind 6 to 16 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

 

Sunday
Rain and snow, becoming all snow after noon. High near 34. Northeast wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is possible.

 

Sunday Night
A slight chance of snow before 8 pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low of around 20. North wind 6 to 13 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.

 

Monday
Sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

 

Monday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 19. West wind 3 to 8 mph.

 

Tuesday
Rain likely, mainly after 5 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 60%.

 

Tuesday Night
Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 38. Windy, with an east wind 17 to 22 mph increasing to 26 to 31 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
