About Incident Incident
Shortly after 8 AM on Sunday, police said they received complaints of loud music as well erratic driving near the Temple to Music at Roger Williams Park.
A red “Slingshot” was described by witnesses as the source of the problems.
Police responded and located a Slingshot vehicle matching the description; when police tried to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle reportedly fled.
According to police, the Slingshot left the road and traveled over grass toward Park Avenue, maneuvering through trees.
It was at this time a female passenger was ejected, say police. The woman sustained minor injuries.
As the police vehicle continued to monitor the direction of the Slingshot as it came back onto the roadway, police say that the driver of the Slingshot then hit the patrol vehicle, and the Slingshot became wedged next to a tree.
Police were then able to apprehend the driver, identified as Luis Rio Kelly, age 23, who was found to be in possession of suspected cocaine and a gun.
Detectives seized the weapon; Kelly is facing multiple firearm, drug, and reckless driving charges.
