Chief Scientist, Head of Technology at NUSC Anthony Bessacini of Narragansett Dies at 84

Anthony Bessacini, 84, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 16th. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (Masiello) Bessacini for 60 years. Born December 28, 1939, in Providence, he was the son of the late Eugene and Antonette (Poli) Bessacini.

Anthony was a graduate of URI with BS and MS Degrees in Electrical Engineering and a member of the Tau Beta Psi honor society. He worked at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport for 39 years where he was the Chief Scientist, Head of Technology. He authored 14 patents demonstrating his ability to bring innovative ideas to fruition. He was also the recipient of numerous technology awards during his career.

 

Anthony was skilled at carpentry, could fix anything and loved spending his mornings at the sea wall where he was easily recognized in his red convertible, Tony 7.

 

His greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Sandra, children Lori Bessacini, Lynn (Keith) Bloomer and his cherished granddaughter, Katie. He was the brother of Carmela (Lou) Amitrano, Eugene (Rosanne) Bessacini, and Joseph (Marcia) Bessacini. Anthony was uncle to 13 wonderful, caring nieces and nephews.

 

A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, April 21st at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Wakefield, RI. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 22nd at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More, Narragansett.
