Co-owner of G.E.M. Builders Richard D. Mowry Dies at 85

Richard D. Mowry, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Joan E. (Koenig) Mowry. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Stanley H. and Dorothy (Lapham) Mowry. Mr. Mowry was a co-owner of G.E.M. Builders, a union construction company, and also a member of Carpenters Local 94 for over 30 years before retiring in 1994. He has been a Smithfield resident for 62 years and a very active member of the Greenville Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Smithfield Elks, a member of the Little Rhody Model A Club, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the president of the Mowry Family Association for over 20 years.

In addition to his wife Joan, he was the father of Kimberly Mowry Silvestri (Christopher), Richard D. Mowry, Jr. (the late Dawn Burgess Mowry), (Carol Gaulin), Daniel F. Mowry (Katrina) and Heather L. Benedetti (Stephen). He was the brother of Stanley H. Mowry and Rhoda Mowry. Mr. Mowry is also survived by his 6 grandchildren Richard D. Mowry, III, Daniel Mowry Croft, Alexander K. Mowry, Joshua T. Mowry, Lauren V. Mowry and Kathryn F. Mowry.

 

Visitation will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, from 4-7 pm in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Greenville Baptist Church, 582 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI 02828. Burial with Military Honors will be in Union Cemetery, N. Smithfield. In lieu of flowers, donations to Greenville Baptist Church, will be appreciated.
