DCYF Social Worker for 30 Years Donna E. Gunning of Narragansett Dies at 75

Donna E. Gunning, 75 of Narragansett, die peacefully on August 28th. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Evelyn Gunning and had been a Narragansett resident for many years. Donna worked as a social worker at DCYF for the State of Rhode Island for over 30 years. She was very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 78. 

Donna obtained her Masters from the RI College of Social Work in 1983, and an undergraduate from Elms College in Social work and Biology.

She cherished giving back to the community. Donna’s outpouring of generosity helped many noble causes throughout the years.

Donna is survived by Kay Schenk, cousins and many friends.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St Thomas more Church in Narragansett, with visitation in the church beginning at 10 a.m.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the R.I. Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Cranston R.I. 02907.
