Deputy Chief of Narragansett Police Gerald D. Driscoll Dies at 58

Gerald D. Driscoll, 58, of South Kingstown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 26th. Born in Newport, RI, Gerry was the son of the late George and Eloise (Phillips) Driscoll, and the beloved husband of Heidi (Miltimore) Driscoll for 32 years.

In September 1987, Gerry joined the Narragansett Police Department as a Patrolman working the midnight shift. Gerry’s skill as an officer, complemented by his methodical approach to investigations, propelled him through the ranks, from Patrolman to Detective Lieutenant to Captain. He was named Deputy Chief in 2010, and retired in 2012 after serving 26 years. But he was unable to fully retire from his love of being on the job—and spent the last 11 years serving as an investigator for the Rhode Island Department of Revenue.

 

Gerry was also heavily involved in the community, and was an avid supporter of University of Rhode Island athletics, St. John’s Basketball and was a member of the URI Fifth Quarter Club. He was active in the Narragansett Lions Club and the South Kingstown Little League. Above all, he lived his life as a die-hard member of Raider Nation bleeding silver and black.

 

After graduating from Portsmouth High School, Gerry went on to graduate from Roger Williams University in Bristol. He was also a graduate of the University of Rhode Island Crime School, as well as the FBI National Academy, session 232.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Meagan and Cameron Driscoll, sister, Patricia Driscoll and niece, Kelly Prudent. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Driscoll.

 

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 2nd from 4-7 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI.  A Requiem Eucharist will be held in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 E Main Rd, Portsmouth, 02871 on Friday, November 3 at 10 am. Burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Portsmouth.
