Dr. Lori A. Underhill of Wakefield Dies at 62

Dr. Lori A. Underhill, 62, of Wakefield, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at South County Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Warwick, RI, she was a daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Reid) Hayes.

 

Lori dedicated many years of her career as a research scientist at Women & Infants Hospital. With a Ph.D in Pharmaceutics from University of Rhode Island, Lori had a passion for researching women’s health issues. Lori received many awards throughout her career and presented her research around the world such as France, Chilé, and Australia. Her dedicated work has been published in numerous scholarly journals over the years.

Above all else, Lori’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with her children, family, and friends. She was warm, welcoming, and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel at home. Her sense of humor and infectious laughter lit up every room she entered, and she brought happiness and connection to all who knew her. She also loved reading, the beach, and cheering on the New England Patriots.

 

She is survived by her four children, Annie Underhill, James Patrick “JP” Underhill, Luke Underhill, and Grace Underhill; her siblings, Barbara Sheehan, Patti Aschaffenburg, and Michael Hayes; and her partner, Bob Chasse.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11 AM at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd, Kingston, RI. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 4 to 7 PM at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
