James J. Owens “Hammer Beanz Hendrix” of Providence Dies at 33

James J. Owens, “Hammer Beanz Hendrix”, 33, of Providence, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021. 

Born in Norfolk, Virginia he was the beloved husband of Emily Horner, and the loving son of Kimberly Lumpkins and Jeffrey Owens Sr.

Hammer Beanz Hendrix was a stepping stone for music in Rhode Island. He often appeared in other artists' tracks while he developed his own repertoire. Hammer had recently signed a distribution deal with Sony Orchard for his upcoming debut album “Coexistence”, and was honing his craft with one of Boston’s top vocal coaches. By combining his wide range with soulful lyrics, Hammer was set to make an impact on the industry in 2022.

He will be sorely missed by his management team and the artists whose lives he touched. Music was not his only talent. He also completed carpentry classes and became a roofer. He is known to his community as a passionate activist and comedian. He was somebody you could never stereotype or put into a box. He was intelligent, loving, driven, and charming. Most of all he was a family man.

Besides his wife and parents he is survived by his cherished children; James Owens Jr., Janaiyla Owens, and Julius Owens, and devoted siblings; Robert Rowe, Jeffrey Owens, Jeffrey Rowe, Emmanuel Rowe, Kymuana Roberson, John Boykins, Tamara Owens, Marcus Owens, Tevin Owens, Brianna Owens,  and Jeffrey Owens lV.

He leaves behind his favorite aunt Neva “Ms. Sunflower” Lumpkins-Gavin, and siblings/cousins; Nekaerra Lumpkins, Tomas Lumpkins, Thomas Lumpkins, Tia-Juana Lumpkins, and Torrez “May May” Lumpkins (who preceded him in death) as well as his stepmother Nadine Owens and stepfathers Gerald Stone and Brad Franklin.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 21 from 9-10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am at the A.A. Mariani and Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St, Providence.

We will have a parade of cars down Broad Street that will head towards North Burial Ground, Providence. Repass will be at 510 Armistead Avenue in Pawtucket, parking will be in the big parking lot across the street.

Due to the mandate, face masks are required at the funeral home upon entering.
