Long-Time Professor of English at Brown University, Mutlu Konuk Blasing, Dies

Mutlu Konuk Blasing, 77, Professor of English at Brown for nearly forty years and an East Side resident since 1969, died peacefully at her summer home, in her native Turkey on August 16, 2021, attended by her son, John, and her sister, Meral Orhan. She is also survived by her former husband, Randy Blasing, of Lincoln.

The internationally known author of four ground-breaking books on American poetry, she also published ten books of the first English translations of works by Nazim Hikmet, the first and greatest modern Turkish poet, and capped her career by writing his biography, “The Life and Times of Turkey’s World Poet.”

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence.
