Long-Time Providence High School English Teacher Charles H. Hewitt, Jr.

Charles H. Hewitt, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Born in Providence, he was the beloved son of the late Kathleen A. (Toohey) and Charles H. Hewitt, Sr.

 

Charles was a proud alumnus of La Salle Academy and a graduate of Providence College. He dedicated over 30 years to teaching English at Central High School and Mt. Pleasant High School, where he retired as Chairman of the English Department in 1990. He also proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Charles is survived by many loving cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

 

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Ave., Providence, RI 02908. Charles will be laid to rest alongside his parents at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
