Merchant Seaman Sydney “Spider” Royster of East Providence Dies at 98

Sydney “Spider” Royster, 98, of East Providence, a former Merchant Seaman, passed away on March 9, 2022 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI.

Born in East Providence, he was the son of the late Archibald C. Royster, Sr. and Dollie Frances (Greene) Royster. He was an East Providence resident for many years. For the last eight months of his life, he lived on the East Side of Providence with his niece Dollie Catala.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Victoria “Lovie“ Carew, Vertie Lorraine Bickham, Julian C. Royster, Archibald Royster Jr., Joseph “Kenny” Royster, June Bernice Smith, Beverly Catala and Shirley Cole.

Spider leaves a son Jerome “Jerry” Spinola, 4 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews to mourn his loss.

Calling hours are Wednesday, March 16th from 10 am to 10:30 am followed by a funeral service from 10:30-11:00 am in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home located at 210 Taunton Ave. East Providence.

Masks would be appreciated. Burial will be private.
