Retired Cumberland Police Officer, Paul J. Mageau, Passes at 81

Paul J. Mageau, 81, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, in the Philip Hulitar, Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Providence.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth M. (Griffin) Mageau. They have been married for the past 50 years.

Born in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Margaret (Brannigan) Mageau. Paul was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

He was a member of the Cumberland Police FOP Lodge 14. He was an avid NASCAR and New England Sports fan.

Paul was Cumberland Police Officer, serving the Town of Cumberland for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He was also employed by J.H. Lynch & Sons, as an assistant dispatcher for thirteen years. He was also a mail courier for the Cumberland School Department.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his three sons; Paul C. Mageau of Lincoln, David J. Mageau and his wife Margaret of Cumberland, and Brian J. Mageau of Burrillville, along with five nieces. He also leaves his beloved dog Charlie and his beloved cat Lizzie. He was the brother of the late Sheila Smith.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Paul's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am in the St. Aidan-St. Patrick Parish, 1460 Diamond Hill Road Cumberland.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1085 North Main Street Providence, RI 02908.
