Retired Teacher for East Providence Schools, Claire Louise Wayland Dies at 82

She is survived by her devoted husband Jack, to whom she was married for 59 years.
Claire grew up in East Providence, daughter of Ray and Mary Cook. She graduated from Sacred Heart School, St. Mary’s Academy, Bay View, and received her Masters's Degree from Rhode Island College. She retired from the East Providence School Department after teaching for 33 years. She was active in a variety of programs at St. Brendan’s and St. Thomas More parishes and served on the board of the East Providence Public Library.

In addition to her husband, Claire leaves her five children, Mary McMurtery (Hugh), Eileen Wayland, John Wayland (Andrea), Joseph Wayland, and Thomas Wayland (Jeanna); her grandchildren, Jack, Bernice, and Brady Wayland, and Leah McMurtery. She also leaves her dear sisters, Marilynn McConnell and Patricia Nailor, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 5-7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, January 21, 2022, at 11 am at St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Riverside, RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at Rhode Island Hospital and the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center for their care and dedication in our Mother’s final days.
