Richard R. Longtin Ret. Capt. Providence Fire Department Dies at 69

Richard R. Longtin Ret. Capt. Providence Fire Department, 69, peacefully passed away on October 18, 2022  at his home.  Richard was a proud retired Fire Captain from the Providence Fire Department.  He served in many of the busiest fire companies in Providence and was well respected by his brother and sister firefighters.

Richard was a devoted family man.  He is survived by his wife of 31 years Diane Sormanti-Longtin.  His loving daughter Jessica Dower and her husband Justin. Proud grandfather to John & Jack Dower.

He was father and mentor to his nephew David P. Sormanti and his wife Patricia .  He was brother to Michael Longtin and his wife Lori.  He was Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

To know Richard was to appreciate his sense of humor, but also his compassion and kind heart.  He endured many illnesses and setbacks over the last few years, always rallying and pushing forward with a positive attitude. 

Richard always loved an adventure, including white water rafting on the Gauley River.  He was a Scuba Diving instructor; avid cruiser and enjoyed his yearly trips to Florida.  Richard was a gourmet chef.  He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends.

Richard was born in Providence, RI to Gladys (Pichie) and the late Robert Longtin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 22nd  at 11:00 at Holy Ghost Church, Atwells Avenue, Providence, RI. Everyone is invited to go directly to church.  Calling Hours:  Friday, October 21st, 4 – 7 pm at Nardolillo Funeral Home& Crematory 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38105.
