RIPTA Driver for 37 Years Joseph V. Sabitoni Dies at 80

Joseph V. Sabitoni, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 19, 2022. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Nancy L. (Lewis) Sabitoni. Born in Providence, the son of the late Joseph F. and Ida E. (D’Orio) Sabitoni, and brother of the late Julie Crowley.

Mr. Sabitoni was a bus driver for RIPTA for 37 years before retiring, and was a current member of the RIPTA Retiree Council. He lived in Johnston for 40 years where he was a volunteer fireman and life member of Johnston Hose Company #3 before moving to North Providence in 2000.

In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his children Cheryl L. Linsky and her husband Alan of Johnston, Joseph “Jay” M. Sabitoni and his wife Brianna of North Providence and Todd C. Sabitoni and his wife Donna of Narragansett. He was the grandfather of Alex Sabitoni, DMD, Sydney Sabitoni, Esq., Andrew Linsky, RN, Jordan Linsky and Nicholas Sabitoni.

His funeral will be held Friday, June 24, 2022, at 9 am from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Home, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visitation, Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101 will be appreciated.
