Virginia R. (Giannamore) Filippelli of Johnston Dies at 88

Virginia R. (Giannamore) Filippelli 88, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 31, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis P. Filippelli for 53 years. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Theresa (Carrara) Giannamore.

Virginia was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and, while raising her five children, received her bachelor's and master’s degrees from Rhode Island College. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for the Johnston School Department for 25 years before retiring. She assisted in organizing and played piano for many musical performances at the Sarah Dyer Barnes Elementary School. In her earlier years, she was trained as a concert pianist. Virginia played a significant role instilling the importance of education in her children and grandchildren. She also served as a former board member of the Italian American Historical Society.

Virginia is survived by her loving children, Louis P. Filippelli and his wife Deana of Warwick, Linda P. Marandola and her husband Thomas of Cranston, Lisa P. Filippelli-Moan and her husband Greg of Johnston, Dr. Leslie P. DiManna of Smithfield, and Dr. Lawrence P. Filippelli and his wife Stephanie of Greenville; cherished grandchildren, Marissa and Julianna Marandola, Jenna Filippelli, Gian and Lucas DiManna, Emilena and Aria Filippelli, and Malakai Moan; dear sisters, Elaine Nannarone of Coventry, and Claire M. Giannamore of West Palm Beach, FL. She is also survived by her son in law Gian DiManna, granddogs Jack & Gia, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Cross Church, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

VISITING HOURS will be held on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.
