WWII D-Day Veteran Ernest F. Corvese Dies at 96

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Ernesto and Elsie (DiBiase) Corvese. Ernie was a photo-engraver for the Providence Gravure for over 30 years before retiring in 1988. He and Dolores lived in Naples Florida for 18 years before moving to Smithfield in 2002.
Ernie served his country in the US Navy during WWII. The Navy trained him in demolitions and at dawn on June 6, 1944, sent him ashore at Normandy to blow up obstacles the Germans placed in the sand to stop vehicles.

He attended the 70th anniversary of “D Day” in Normandy, France and walked the beaches while being interviewed by Tom Brokaw. On July 9, 2016, he was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French Council, Frances highest Civil and Military decoration. Ernie attended Eastern Nazaren College and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. He enjoyed playing golf and especially enjoyed woodworking projects.
In addition to his wife Dolores, he is survived by his children Denise C. Venditelli and her husband Steven of Hope, RI, Susan J. Carosi and her husband Paul of Henderson, NV, Deborah A. Linn and her husband Douglas of Henderson, NV and Kevin C. Corvese and his wife Marie of Westerly. He was the brother of Claudia Trudeau and the late Etta Bachelder and Angelina DelGallo. Ernie was the loving grandfather of Brian Venditelli and his wife Laura, Careena Robertson and her husband James, Lauren Corvese, Rebecca Corvese and Ryan Corvese. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.
The Corvese family is truly thankful for all the care and help from the Hope Health Hospice and staff, and Greenville Center Nursing Home and staff.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 10AM in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial with military honors will follow in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter.
Visitation is respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations to Disabled American Veterans Association at DAV.org, or to wwiifoundation.org will be appreciated.
