2022 Governor’s Race Fundraising Wars — Who's Up and Who's Down

L-R Treasurer Magaziner, Sec. of State Gorbea, Gov. McKee and Mayor Elorza
The first-quarter fundraising reports are in and there are significant changes from the last quarter to 2020 to the first quarter of 2021.

Functionally, the two bottom dwellers in 2020 took in the biggest hauls and the two top performers fell to the bottom.

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza who won the 4th quarter of 2020 —  raising more than $193,000 — more than General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and then soon-to-be Governor Dan McKee combined, fell to last.

Political fundraising is a marathon, not a sprint. Elorza trailed behind the four leading Democratic candidates in the first quarter of 2021.

McKee had a much-improved fundraising quarter, but did not come close to expectations, and he continues to trail the field in total cash on hand.

Magaziner bounced back and raised the most for the quarter.

No potential Republican candidates reported significant fundraising.
