2022 RI Gov’s Race - Elorza Outraises Magaziner and McKee Combined, Gorbea Finishes 2nd

Left to Right: Gorbea, Magaziner, Elorza, and McKee
Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza blew out the rest of the field eyeing the Rhode Island Governor’s seat in 2022 in fundraising in the 4th quarter of 2020, according to campaign finance reports filed on Monday.

There are four prominent Democrats vying for the Governor's office and they dominated fundraising. Republicans were nearly dormant in fundraising for the quarter.

Elorza raised more than $193,000 — more than General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and soon-to-be Governor Dan McKee combined.

Elorza’s donations were fueled in part by big players in the construction industry, just as the city is poised to oversee hundreds of millions in contracts for school construction.

Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea raised the second most after Elorza. She raised $103,422 for the quarter.

The quarter was a bust for Lt. Governor Dan McKee who could not take advantage of the rumors that Governor Gina Raimondo was likely to take a position in President Joseph Biden's administration.

Raimondo is expected to be confirmed as U.S. Secretary of Commerce under Biden in the next week.
