Progressive Providence Rep. Walsh Concedes to Challenger Biah

Nathan Biah
Rhode Island State Representative Moira Jayne Walsh has conceded her primary race to opponent Nathan Biah in the democratic primary in District Three in Providence.

A firebrand at the State House since first being elected in 2016, Walsh has fought for a tipped minimum wage — and railed against fellow members when she said drinking was “rampant” in the state capital building.

Providence high school principal Nathan Biah announced his candidacy in May, for the district that represents the Charles, North End, and Smith Hill neighborhoods of Providence.

“I believe stories like mine represent the diverse communities of District 3. As an educator, I know the struggles our families are facing, and I’ll work every day to ensure the decisions made in the statehouse are serving their needs,” said Biah.

With no opponents in the general election, Biah is now the presumptive Representative-elect.

“I am so happy that my neighbors in district three finally get a representative who has lived their experience. Congrats to Nathan Biah for District 3 for being the first black immigrant representative for our district. Representation matters and I’m so happy for all the neighbors who finally have a rep who looks like them," she said.
