Carlos Tobon: 15 to Watch in RI in 2015

Carlos Tobon
After losing in 2012 to incumbent Representative William San Bento, Tobon emerged victorious this past election cycle in Pawtucket, besting independent opponent Jonathan Vallecilla with over 80% of the vote to represent the 58th House District in the General Assembly.

The Pawtucket native, who was elected twice into the Pawtucket Teen Hall of Fame, counts among his experience working at insurance firm Troy, Pires & Allen, serving on the advisory council of the United Way, and on the board of Books Are Wings, a local non-profit that aims to expand access to books for children.

Focusing on jobs and the economy, education, taxes, and civic engagement as the pillars of his platform, Tobon said that he intends to establish District 58 Business Committee consisting of local business owners and elected officials to address the ongoing economic situation and "work collectively to nurture an environment where small businesses can thrive."  Tobon also wants to advance employment opportunities for young people in the District, and "build upon Pawtucket’s success in the arts and help market partners in the arts community to make the city an arts and culture destination."
