NEW: Debate Confusion Cleared Up - Fung Voted in Two Democratic Primaries

The battle over which Republican is a better Republican has taken a bizarre turn just one week before the primary.

In Tuesday's WPRI TV debate of the GOP candidates for Governor, moderator Tim White asked both Ken Block and Allan Fung, "Have either of you voted in a Democratic Primary?   Fung (shaking his head in a no manner), said, "I do not believe I have."

White followed up, "You can't remember if...?  Fung said, "I can't remember.  I know I have voted in Republican primaries consistently."

Both the voting records at Cranston City Hall and records from VoteBuilder.com, shows that Allan Fung voted twice in Democratic Primaries in 1998 and in 2000.

This comes on the heels of both Fung and Block scoring major GOP endorsements. Block landed 2010 GOP Gubernatorial candidate John Robitialle and Fung landed the endorsement of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

"Mayor Fung has previously acknowledged that when he was younger he was registered for a time as a Democrat.  He did not recall voting in a Democratic primary when he was in his late twenties, but ever since he entered public service he has been registered and has voted as a Republican," said Fung campaign spokesperson Rob Coupe.

Block has been under fire from Fung for voting for President Barack Obama. Fung has consistently tried to tie Block, the founder of the Moderate Party in RI to both Obama and Governor Lincoln Chafee.
