Democrats Poised for Big Wins in GA, Senate to Flip and RI’s Reed to Chair Key Senate Committee

The United States Senate is poised to flip from red to blue. Raphael Warnoff, a Black preacher has won a United States Senate seat and 33-year-old Democrat Jon Ossoff is leading Repiblican David Perdue by 16,000+ votes and that lead is expected to grow. 

If the Ossoff lead holds, the implications are significant for President-elect Joe Biden and for Rhode Island’s Jack Reed. 

As a result of a Georgia sweep, Democrats would hold the Presidency and both chambers of Congress. Goldman Sachs predicted Tuesday that if the Democrats capture "the United States Senate another tranche of aid for state and local governments (a contentious provision that was left out of the latest package amid pushback from the GOP), a further extension of expanded federal unemployment benefits, and possible student loan relief, along with additional funding for nutrition programs."

For Rhode Island, U.S. Senator Jack Reed would take the chairmanship of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee. A Reed chairmanship could mean a windfall for Rhode Island’s defense industry and a boost to the state's struggling economy.

Now, Republicans are blasting President Trump for his claims, charges, and controversial phone call to the Republican Georgia Secretary of Senate in the past few weeks. Trump claimed that the November Georgia election was rigged and the President criticized the GOP Governor, Lt. Governor and Secretary of State. According to early analysis, GOP turnout was suppressed in Georgia as a result of Trump's claims.
