Finneran: A Very Pleasant Surprise

Tom Finneran
Disclaimers come first:

I did not watch the Golden Globe Awards.

I hate all that self-congratulatory crap.

The Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Emmys………all those shows are horrible spectacles, paying tribute to horrible hypocrites. I call it the pretensions of the pompous.

I am not fertile ground for the idiotic proclamations of the red carpet crowd. Private jets, lavish yachts, plush limousines, armed bodyguards, and gated estates are apparently the basic necessities required for that crowd’s sermons on global warming, racism, homophobia, and Amerikkka.

This most warped and immoral cluster of frauds deigns to lecture the rest of America about its allegedly hideous history and its many shortcomings.  I’m not sure but I doubt that some dairy farmer in Ohio or some steelworker in Pennsylvania harbors 1/100th of the hypocrisy of these dolts. Always remember that the Hollywood crowd worships Roman Polanski, he of the child rape fame, while blasting young United States Marines as war criminals. Need I say more?

Thus, it was a most pleasant surprise to read that the comic Ricky Gervais turned his verbal guns upon the assembled gowns and tuxedos. Apparently, few were spared. Good work Ricky.

Of the many targets from which to choose, Gervais singled out the one and only Felicity Huffman early on. You remember Felicity……….she’s the one who paid someone to correct her daughter’s erroneous admissions test answers, thus elevating the daughter’s score and gaining her daughter admission to an elite college.

God, what a progressive parent. What a splendid message. What a shining example of doing the right thing. Of course I cannot wait for Felicity’s next lecture about some woke cause. She brings such a majestic authority for the truth. You know, truth to power and all that crap. I wonder what worthy student applicant got screwed by Felicity’s it’s-all-about-me attitude?

The morning headlines were what caught my eye. As part of my complete avoidance of these tasteless shows, I always choose to skip over the gushing media coverage. But the headline caught my eye with words to the effect that “Gervais skewers Hollywood”. My hopes rose……………

Of many worthy observations, including reminders that the gathered worthies once worshipped the oafish Harvey Weinstein and the repulsive Jeffrey Epstein, I liked this one the best:

“So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”

Amen Ricky, amen.
