GoLocal Benchmark Poll: Most Rhode Islanders Believe Economy Has Been Stagnant or Gotten Worse

Another sign that Rhode Islanders are not pleased with the direction of the Rhode Island economy was their response to the following question — “Over the past three years or so, would you say the economy in Rhode Island has improved, gotten worse, or not changed at all?”

Overall, just over a third (35 percent) of Rhode Islanders believe the economy has improved during the past three years. This is a bad sign for Governor Gina Raimondo — the former venture capitalist who ran as, and has claimed to be, a pro-business governor who could rebuild Rhode Island's economy.

According to the Benchmark Poll, 43 percent of respondents believe Rhode Island’s economy has stayed the same and 16 percent say it has gotten worse. 5 percent refused to answer.
